School Visits

A modern and academically ambitious British girls’ boarding school near London, 
visited in April 2026.

Downe House School is one of England’s best-known girls’ boarding schools, educating girls aged 11 to 18 on a rural campus in the village of Cold Ash, West Berkshire. For international families, the location is practical as well as attractive: Heathrow Airport is under an hour away by car, making travel relatively straightforward for boarders flying in and out of the UK.

A Warm and Traditional British Boarding School Near Oxford

While it’s a British boarding school Gina knows well, it never hurts to refresh the memory and find out what’s new, so here’s what she thinks you should know about Uppingham School.

The latest British boarding school Gina has visited is Harrogate Ladies’ College. Located in a 22-acre site within walking distance of the centre of the beautiful Victorian spa town of Harrogate, this is a small school with just 260 students, of whom around a third are boarders.

Last week, Gina took advantage of a quieter office and some lovely weather to get out and about, and her latest British boarding school visit refreshed her knowledge of Durham School.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of our work is being able to visit some of the pupils we have placed in their British boarding schools once they are here.

Travelling further south and west, Gina’s last two visits on this trip were to the boarding schools in Westonbirt and Wells.

Westonbirt School

Around 10 minutes’ drive from the charming Cotswolds town of Tetbury and next to the famous arboretum, Westonbirt is simply stunning. The main building is a mansion house surrounded by magnificent grounds complete with golf course, lake and Italian gardens.

Gina’s school tour took her from Wales to Gloucestershire to remind herself what two of Cheltenham’s boarding schools offer.

Cheltenham College

Making a considerable contribution to the beauty of Cheltenham Spa, many of the College buildings are very traditional. The library is stunning and a truly inspiring place for the students to work, while the dining hall could be straight out of a Harry Potter film.

Gina’s recent road trip took her first to Wales, to visit Christ College Brecon and Haberdashers’ Monmouth School. Read on for her findings and thoughts on these two Welsh boarding schools.

Christ College Brecon

Founded in 1541 by King Henry VIII on the site of a Dominican Priory, Christ College enjoys a glorious location in the small town of Brecon at the foot of the Brecon Beacons National Park, only 1 hour from Cardiff and about 1.5 hours from Bristol.

When making our regular visits to British boarding schools it is always a real pleasure to meet the students we have recommended to them. Recently Gina met two of our German students, Leo at Wells Cathedral School and Emil at Wycliffe College, both of whom had been at their new UK schools for about two weeks by then.
