RESULTS: International Baccalaureate Diploma results summary
We have been enjoying receiving news of some excellent International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) results from our British boarding schools.
What is the International Baccalaureate Diploma?
The IB is an internationally recognised qualification that demonstrates students have developed academic excellence, critical thinking and global perspectives, preparing them for success at leading universities worldwide. IB students choose six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, and are guaranteed breadth in their education through options across Literature, Language, Humanities, Sciences, Maths and the Arts. The maximum grade for each subject is 7, with an additional 3 points from the core programmes making the total score up to 45. Those core programmes are Theory of Knowledge (ToK) which explores how we know what we know; Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), designed to promote wellbeing and build resilience through sport, art, drama, music and community service whilst giving recognition to students’ co-curricular activities; and the Extended Essay which enables students to explore their passions and produce a 4,000-word research project.
As well as offering the Diploma course in Sixth Form, some of the schools we work with offer a Pre-IB course, which provides international students with a strong academic foundation, helping them develop their English, study skills and subject knowledge before progressing to the IB.
Some examples of results
Taunton School is celebrating its students achieving a 100% pass rate, with an average score of 33.4 points, significantly above the global average of 30.5. Paul from Germany, who began his journey at Taunton on its Pre-IB (One-Year GCSE) programme achieved an outstanding 42 points out of 45, while Maria from Spain achieved 7 out of 7 in all three of her Higher Level subjects – the equivalent of three A* grades at A Level.
On the Isle of Man, King William’s College students demonstrated their abilities and dedication, giving the school its best results in over a decade; another 100% pass rate, with an average points score of 34.2 and over half of candidates scoring over the 35-point benchmark, placing them in a highly competitive bracket for entry to top-tier universities.
Meanwhile in Reading, 100% of Leighton Park’s IB class of 2026 achieved their Diploma with an average points score of 34.3, while 22% of its students achieved 40 points or more, a fantastic achievement reflecting real academic excellence. Joaquin, who achieved the highest score of the cohort, commented: “The IB has been very helpful as a whole course, in terms of learning and developing for university or for anything after Sixth Form.”
