DEVELOPMENTS: new Sixth Form College at Canford School

As one academic year ends, we look ahead to the next, focussing on what’s new at some of our British boarding schools, starting with Canford School.

Canford School’s Sixth Form College

Last year Canford opened its new Sixth Form Hub, housing the Careers and Future Life Centre, Wellbeing Centre, study spaces and social areas for years 12 and 13. In September its Sixth Form College will be completed with the opening of separate Upper Sixth ensuite boarding houses for boys and girls.

The College is situated around an attractive courtyard close to the original Manor House and all the main teaching areas, theatre, library, music school and sports centre. The Hub is the result of a fantastic renovation inside an original building, while the two brand new accommodation wings form an L shape to complete the quad.

Explore the Hub

A 360 virtual tour is available for you to explore everything the Hub has to offer, including a conference and seminar space for workplace-style physical and virtual events and networking, a teaching kitchen and entertainment dining area for small, pupil-led functions and a range of multi-purpose social and educational spaces.

Why the developments are important

Canford recognises the importance of Sixth Form as a critical time for preparing pupils to leave school. The personal development needs of 17–18-year-olds readying themselves for a competitive world are very different to those of younger pupils, and the new College structure allows for stage-specific guidance, appropriate expectations and demands.

Complementing the academic side, supporting students through their A Levels, the aim is to provide opportunities for them to explore their talents and be themselves in a warm and supportive community. There is a strong focus on wellbeing and welfare, with Support for Learning if required, and excellent Higher Education and Careers provision to help students turn dreams into reality.
