Which are our top British boarding schools for squash?
Squash is a super sport guaranteed to provide players with an invigorating and rewarding burst of energy. Played indoors, it isn’t at the whim of our famous British weather either! If it’s your child’s preferred sport you may wish to know which are our top British boarding schools for squash, so here’s a small selection.
With four courts and enviable facilities, squash is going from strength to strength at King’s College Taunton. It is played all year round, and pupils can choose it as a full-time sporting activity in games sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons or just play socially once a week. For higher performance players, the squad train together at set times and there are individual sessions organised throughout the week where specialist coaches help with any specific requirements. A team is entered in the Somerset Squash league to play competitively against local clubs, home and away, on Monday evenings from September to March. There are also regular school matches and for the high-performance players, King’s enters the England Squash National Schools competition each year.
Whenever we feature sport, we have to include Millfield and squash is no exception. Boys and girls of all ages and ability are encouraged to play and enjoy squash here, whether on a full-time basis or as a fitness and social activity. With six newly refurbished courts and a dedicated coaching team, students have the means to continually develop their technique and skill, while gaining experience in numerous fixtures and competitions. Members of the full-time squad train six days a week, consistently feature in the National Schools competition finals and frequently represent their country at U15-19 age groups, competing in top European Grand Prix and Super Series events.
The Wycliffe College squash academy is an international community of players who train together on a daily basis. They all get the necessary Technical, Tactical, Physical and Mental training to improve them as a player and person. With the support of the school, the squad travels with coaching support to tournaments, both nationally and internationally. These weekends are always tough, but normally a lot of fun and crucial to their learning. Most of the training is done through group sessions, with one individual coaching session per week with the head coach. This work and information is then fed into the group sessions, where the learning continues under the eyes of the coaches. Wycliffe also enters the National Schools competition, coming second in the U18 event last year.
