Focus on golf at British boarding schools

Continuing our “Focus on…” series, this time we are shining a light on golf at some of the Scottish boarding schools we work with.

Dollar Academy recently informed us of its new partnership with the famous hotel and golf club, Gleneagles. Golfers at the school already enjoy membership of the 9-hole Dollar Golf Course right next door; Muckhart Golf Club, which has three 9-hole heathland courses, and there is also a driving range within a 5-minute drive. This new collaboration will allow Dollar’s pupils to experience world leading golf coaching at Gleneagles, coupled with an outstanding education, of course.

Glenalmond College has its own 9-hole, 18-tee golf course, on which all pupils are encouraged to enjoy the game, from beginners right through to those on a golf scholarship wishing to turn professional. The College also has a brand new, state-of-the-art golf hub, developed as part of an ongoing programme of investment, to ensure Glenalmond continues to grow its reputation as a centre of excellence for learning and its range of activities, including golf.

Located near the world’s oldest playing course, and with a choice of magnificent links courses in the surrounding area, Loretto School has a strong tradition of top-level golf. Its Golf Academy was established in 2002, to which a state-of-the-art Indoor Centre was added in 2015, attracting young players from around the world.

All boys’ boarding school Merchiston Castle is the No. 1 Scottish Ranking Golf School (ISGA 2019/20 to 2020/21). Its Golf Academy aims to nurture and develop boys through a personalised and progressive performance programme alongside their education. Boarders benefit from flexible support and individual tutoring to facilitate training and competition schedules.

And, with the famous St Andrews golf links right on its doorstep, pupils at St Leonards are in the enviable position of learning and playing golf in one of its most revered locations. They have low-cost access to the seven links courses, including the world-famous Old Course. Coupled with covered and floodlit, open-air practice facilities at the St Andrews Links Golf Academy, it’s a perfect location for any young golfer.

While we have focussed on Scotland, there are also English boarding schools that offer golf, so please do contact us to discuss where would be right for your child.
