New Cookery Facility at Truro School

September whizzed past in its usual whirl of back to school activity and one bit of English boarding school news that caught our eye was this: Prue Leith CBE DL visiting Truro School to officially open their new Cookery School.  As well as enabling practical cookery to be taught throughout the school, the new facility gives Sixth Form students the opportunity to complete the prestigious Leiths Introductory Certificate of Food and Wine, a professional cookery course designed to provide students with employment opportunities and invaluable life skills.

Prue started in catering with Leith’s Good Food and followed with Leith’s Restaurant, which won a Michelin Star, before opening Leith’s School of Food and Wine. She has been a food columnist and has written 12 cookbooks, her autobiography, Relish, and seven novels, as well as judging several TV cookery shows including the immensely popular Great British Bake Off.

Students made the most of this opportunity to meet Prue and, after the official opening, she said: “So good to find a school taking food seriously and everyone having so much fun in the brilliant new cookery school.”

Headmaster of Truro School, Andrew Gordon-Brown, commented: “It is fantastic that we are able to provide such state-of-the-art facilities, not only for our pupils to learn to cook but for our Sixth Formers to become associated with such a prestigious organisation as Leiths.  We pride ourselves on giving our students the stepping stones to success after they have left school and university, and this is just one more way in which we can do that.”

We think this is a great addition to a school that already offers a breadth of opportunities to its pupils, not least due to its location in Cornwall, with the county’s 300 miles of coastline, as well as an existing array of fantastic facilities for sport and the arts.
