Queen Margaret’s wins national boarding innovation award

Earlier this month Queen Margaret’s School received the Boarding Schools Association’s 2018 Boarding Innovation Award, in recognition of the ‘Community Weekends’ that were introduced last September.

As the only all girls’ full boarding school in the north of England, one of QM’s great strengths is its thriving boarding life, and the Community Weekends were developed to build on this, with the girls themselves taking charge. They take full responsibility for each of the year’s 12 Community Weekends, consulting with all year groups to devise themes and content, giving girls the opportunity to develop essential soft skills such as communication, leadership and negotiation. So far, the content has ranged from Halloween and Performing Arts themed weekends to activities such as Football Zorbing, extreme adventure Zip Wire, Surf Simulator, Inflatable Obstacle Course and Climbing Wall.

Upon accepting the award, Head of Queen Margaret’s, Jessica Miles, commented: “We are honoured and delighted to be awarded with this national accolade, which is testament to the value of boarding, demonstrating how innovation works to create an inclusive, thriving and happy boarding community.”
