Changing of the guard at Eton

This month Tony Little retires as Head Master of Eton College after 13 years in the role there, and 26 years in total as a Head (at Chigwell School and Oakham School before Eton). He has poured all this educational experience into a book published to coincide with his retirement, “An Intelligent Person’s Guide to Education” (Bloomsbury, £16.99).

Covering topics such as authority, expectations, self-confidence and creativity, it includes a list of titles Mr Little says every bright 16-year-old should read, as well as some insightful advice on the teenage years. His tips for parents include keeping up regular conversations, listening, getting to know your children’s friends and dealing with one issue at a time.

Clearly not quite ready for a quiet life, he is taking up a role as chief education officer of international education company Gems and will be the Boarding Schools’ Association’s honorary president for its 50th anniversary year (2015-16).

We wish him well and it may well be worth investing in that book!
