What’s new at Scarborough College?

I recently took a short trip to the popular seaside town of Scarborough in North Yorkshire to catch up with all the latest developments at Scarborough College. Enjoying a stunning location overlooking the sea, just a short walk from the beach at South Bay and the town centre, the school has a buzzy, positive feel. This emanates from the top, as Headmaster of four years, Guy Emmett, clearly has real energy and drive.

Scarborough College – academic info

This British boarding school proudly offers IB only in the Sixth Form. Its approach to IT is impressive, with a well-equipped IT suite, Wi-Fi in all rooms in the boarding houses, and with each student being equipped with a Chromebook when they start. There is a strong Art and DT department with 3D printer, a Drama studio and Production Hall for Performing Arts, and the Sixth Form Centre will be redeveloped and extended over the summer, adding to the existing café and study areas. The refurbished science lab is even complemented by a quirky Observatory at the very top of the main school building. Quite apart from adding to the study of astronomy, it offers some wonderful views of the bay during daytime!

Scarborough College – sport

Sport is strong here; it is a Centre of Excellence for cricket, has an impressive astroturf for hockey, successful rugby teams, and a brand-new athletics track has just been finished, a few minutes’ walk from the main campus.

Scarborough College – boarding

The Senior School currently has around 475 students, 120 of whom board in three beautifully refurbished boarding houses, all within a few minutes’ walk of the main school site. There is currently one for boys, one for girls and a larger co-ed Sixth Form house, while a new house for Senior boy boarders is planned for the new academic year. All the boarding houses have stunning accommodation, quite a few of the rooms in the Sixth Form boarding house being ensuite.

This is a British boarding school that is going from strength to strength and offers superb pastoral care across the board, so please do get in touch if you’d like to know more.
