Overview
Founded in 1407, Oswestry School is a thriving co-educational day and boarding school set in 50 acres of grounds in the historic market town of Oswestry, surrounded by stunning countryside. The School is non-selective, believing that the primary role of education is to develop the character, intellect, creativity and spirituality of pupils. Whilst academic performance is important it represents just a part of the school’s Total Curriculum in which extra-curricular activities also play a key role.

Academic
Students are allocated to one of 4 houses, each a balance of boarding and day pupils, boys and girls and older and younger pupils designed to produce a wide range of talents and interests. Form tutors hold one-to-ones with each of their tutees twice a term to ensure they receive high quality guidance and support, whilst the separate Sixth Form Centre allows A Level students the space to focus. On average around a quarter of A Level candidates achieve A*/A and almost 60% achieve A*/B.
Boarding
There are 3 purpose-built boarding houses each with a resident houseparent and assistants, one of whom will hold a one-to-one with each student every 2 weeks, guiding them academically, personally, and in the wide range of extra-curricular activities on offer. Wifi is available throughout the school campus making it easy for pupils to stay in touch. In the earlier years 3-5 pupils share a room as friends are made whilst Sixth Formers usually share twin study-bedrooms in separate accommodation.
Sports
25 acres of playing fields and facilities, including tennis/netball courts, an indoor swimming pool, a floodlit Astroturf, a fives court, a shooting range and a fitness suite enable the School to offer something for everyone. In addition to the major sports, pupils’ options include badminton, cross-country, fencing, fives, gymnastics, and triathlon whilst the School keeps dinghies at the nearby Shropshire Sailing Club and golf tuition is provided at Oswestry Golf Club.
Creative arts
As well as offering many creative extra-curricular activities, Art, Design Technology, Music and Textiles are all taught at A Level. The Art Department has facilities for a broad range of disciplines, over half of students have instrumental music lessons whilst modern, street and tap dance and ballet are offered in the new Dance Studio. The Peter Humphreys Centre has seating for 200 and hosts a wide range of concerts and productions along with inter-house competitions.
