DLD is the oldest and one of the most prestigious independent tutorial colleges in London, and since its foundation in 1931 it has built a strong reputation among students, parents, schools and universities. Academic

Friendly and informal, DLD treats every student as an individual young adult and offers each the best possible teaching and educational resources. Bright state-of-the-art facilities and a broad range of subjects at A Level are complemented by rigorous, pro-active and interesting teaching by expert teachers, frequent testing and weekly meetings with a personal tutor. A Level results are on an upward curve and on average a third of A Level candidates achieve A*/A whilst around 60% achieve A*/B.

Boarding

The College provides private boarding accommodation in the 15 floors directly above the College premises, supervised by residential houseparents who are the first point of contact outside teaching hours. Each single room has a bed, study space, storage, and a washroom whilst there are also a small number of twin rooms. There is a dedicated terrace for under 16s and an enclosed private garden area adjoining the main building, whilst all meals are prepared and served on site in the refectory.

Sports

DLD strives to provide a sporting environment that encourages students to be active and healthy, whilst developing their leadership skills, confidence and character. There is a dedicated football team that plays in a competitive league and was crowned 8 a-side league winners in 2014-15 and runners-up in the 7 a-side CIFE Tournament in 2015-16. Extra-curricular activities include yoga, circuit training, climbing, boxing, archery and basketball.

Creative arts

The Creative Arts have a high profile with 7 different disciplines taught at A Level, and together they make a major contribution to creating a College identity and a sense of collaboration. The Art department has 3 studios, a graphics suite and a photography studio whilst the Media and Music Technology departments have a recording studio complex and a music technology lab. Drama boasts a 70 seat theatre that doubles as a cinema and recently hosted a production of Dickens’ ‘Great Expectations’.
