Ellesmere is a co-educational school set in 144 acres of beautiful Shropshire countryside. Since its founding in 1884 the school has retained its individual student focus whilst promoting a family, community atmosphere. Ellesmere is an incredibly friendly boarding school which encourages its students to try new things and explore their potential through an innovative curriculum. Sport is fostered by academies and the College has among the best swimming and shooting teams in the country.

Academic

The College aims to provide subjects which appeal to the interests of all students. To enable them to play to their strengths and perform to their potential students are offered the opportunity to study either A Levels or the IB Diploma. One year Pre-A Level and Pre-IB courses provide pathways into the Sixth Form. The average IB score of over 30, along with the 60% of A Level students on average who achieve A*/B, is all the more impressive given the College’s non-selective approach.

Boarding

The modern accommodation provides a high quality, comfortable and secure environment for students, the majority of rooms being single or twin. WiFi is available throughout the school. Residential staff are on site 24 hours a day and close liaison between the boarding and teaching staff ensures continuity of care at all times. Inter-house competitions cover a broad range of arts and sports, focussed on participation and giving your best.

Pupils have plenty of opportunities to play competitive and recreational sport during and after school, benefiting from fresh air and physical fitness as well as learning life lessons that are hard to replicate elsewhere. A large number of sports is on offer, including basketball, golf, football, badminton, cricket, netball, hockey and tennis. The impressive facilities include two gyms, an indoor swimming pool, shooting ranges, a sailing lake, a golf course and tennis courts.

Creative arts

The Arts Award programme covers the performing arts and the traditional visual arts of drawing, painting and sculpture. Students can get involved in numerous drama productions held in the fully equipped 180 seat theatre. Singing is an area of real excellence with 4 choirs that rehearse weekly and perform regularly. There is a wide range of ensembles with opportunities to perform, and a typical year would see 3 major concerts, a choral/instrumental tour and recitals by leading musicians.
