Overview
Founded in 1977 and located close to Oxford city centre and its inspirational ‘dreaming spires’, d’Overbroeck’s is a co-educational independent school taking boarders from age 14-18. Personal relationships are key at d’Overbroeck’s, alongside a conviction that the individual lies at the heart of the school, and whilst boundaries are maintained there is a minimum of stuffiness and formal hierarchies. Only an hour from London by train and Heathrow airport by road, it is also very well connected.

Academic
A recent ISI Inspection awarded the School “Excellent” in all main categories. The one or two-year iGCSE programme provides an excellent preparation for A Level and a British Council report on this course identified an impressive 11 strengths. At A Level there are 35 subjects to choose from, results are strong with an average of over 55% of students achieving A*/A, and a Director of Studies for each student ensures a holistic focus on academic progress, well-being and communication.
Boarding
There is a very friendly atmosphere in the boarding houses, with international and British boarding students chatting at dinner and socialising in communal spaces. The homestay experience is also popular, where students live with a British family and really get to know them. Families do everything they can to make the students’ stay with them pleasant and comfortable, and many keep in touch for years afterwards.
Sports
d’Overbroeck’s offers a wide range of sporting activities at many of Oxford’s top sporting facilities. The school competes against other local schools in team sports, but also emphasises choice and breadth of activities, so students can also participate in individual and fitness-based activities such as dance, gym, running, golf, rock climbing, swimming, yoga and zumba. The overall goal is to maximise the enjoyment of sport by students and encourage lifelong health and fitness.
Creative arts
d’Overbroeck’s has a dynamic and individual-centred approach to the Arts. Although technique is a vital element, it is above all interested in allowing students to develop their own artistic style and opinions. Students are encouraged to become creative, lateral thinkers, whether aiming to be physicists, poets or performers. Students participate in regular drama productions and concerts, as well as attending professional productions and exhibitions as a vital element of education in the Arts.

- d’Overbroeck’s new Sixth Form site opens in Sept 2017. A villa built in 1823 is being renovated and new buildings are being constructed amongst ancient trees.
